Equations are dense. A line of algebra carries more information per character than a sentence does, and it is read more slowly, which means the intro phase — the time before the countdown starts — matters more here than in any other format. The viewer needs to parse the equation before they can start solving it.
YAQUIZO separates those two things. The intro time controls how long the equation sits there being read; the countdown controls how long there is to solve it. Setting the intro to a second and a half makes a noticeable difference on anything with more than one term.
For the answer, giving the result rather than the full working is usually right at this length. A worked solution needs its own cards.
Tips that actually help
-
Give the equation reading time
The intro phase is separate from the countdown for exactly this. A second and a half before the clock starts is the difference between solvable and unfair.
-
Warn about multiple solutions
A quadratic with two roots gets a comment war if the card shows one. The hint line handles it in three words.
-
Show the result, not the working
Full working needs its own sequence of cards. At this length the answer plus a method hint is what actually fits.
Frequently asked questions
Can I write superscripts and roots? +
Yes — x², √, π and the rest of the Unicode maths range render as long as the chosen font supports them. There is no LaTeX rendering.
How do I control the time before the countdown? +
The intro duration is its own setting, separate from the answer countdown and the reveal. All three are sliders in the editor.
Can I show a step-by-step solution? +
Use one card per step. Each step becomes its own scene, which is more readable than compressing the working onto a single card.
